We have cruised since the 70's and never have we had a cruise like this one on the Minerva II up the Amazon, it was absolutely wonderful, the ship was like a manor house tastefully decorated, lovely seating and everyone from the captain down was so friendly, we are only sorry we have left it so late to go on her, we did book while we were on her and are off again next week from Peru to the Falklands
The ports of call were great and what can you say about the amazon except it was amazing, the tours were brilliant all inclusive as were the tips, we had two tours a day and they ran so smoothly and you were looked after better than any tours we have been on before, I even cought a Parana while but chucked it back quickly after taking a picture of its teeth, it is so sad that the Minerva II is going, and it does not look like there will be a replacement, it is a loss to cruising

Opinion: Agree Comment by Brunt, THETFORD (28 Jan 08 16:57) about this REVIEW.
I do not think I would wish to travel on this ship when it becomes Royal Princess Metcalfe of Wetherby. I have nothing against Ameicans generally but they do tend to 'eat' and trash the refinement of dining and Princess Line, unlike the Minervas, will be full of them. I favour Mrs McLeod's viewpoint. Swan Hellenic always was thinking man's cruising and I've cruised on both their ships

Opinion: Disagree Comment by Metcalfe, Wetherby (16 Jan 07 12:20) about this REVIEW.
We could not disagree more and we were on the same cruise. Food was no better than average, most of the waiting staff would have to pull their socks up on other lines, entertainment was non existent and some of that was abysmal ie an opera singer who would struggle in a local church choir. Some of the passengers ie the hardened Swanners who have never tried another line, were downright rude. Sorry to see it go, no. Try it when it reappears as Royal Princess and see the difference
