The cruise was on Minerva 11 Pyramids & Temples 14/12/2006-04/01/2007.
This was our second cruise on Minerva, the first being last October in the Mediterranean. The standard of food was excellent with plenty of choice. The cabin was spacious, well maintained by a very good steward. We went on excursions every day they were available and most were interesting, indeed fascinating in some cases. The staff seemed to be disorganised at times with a lack of coordination with the local guides. Having said that the overall control of the activities was good. The resident band was good although they must have been disappointed by the lack of support they received other than on New Year's Eve. The supporting group were inadequate, not being able to play without music which was proved when their music stands blew over and they could not continue. Four lady classical musicians played concerts to a high standard and the crew gave two very good variety shows. Some of the lecturers were good but others somewhat dull, reading from prepared notes. Most of the catering staff were good but a few of the waiters would benefit from more training and supervision. The wine waiters, except in the Orpheus Bar, seemed very reluctant to serve without being asked. Overall the cruise was good, the ship operates to a high standard but I think many of the crew are concerned about the future after April and it shows in their attitude. In the first few days of the cruise many passengers commented on the travel difficulties they had experienced in arriving at the ship. This is something Swan Hellenic should look into.
